Travelling with children to Finland

When travelling with children, in particular for an Arctic holiday, it’s important to consider their needs as an Arctic adventure is not your typical holiday. In particular, we have listed some useful tips for preparing an Arctic holiday with children:

1. Pack clothes that’ll keep them warm – the Arctic Circle is known for its cold temperatures, so make sure you come prepared for this, especially if you’re heading towards Lapland. Think gloves/mittens, hats, scarves, thick winter coats, and layers of clothing! It’s also important to make sure that the outerwear is waterproof.
2. Bring a reusable water bottle for them – if you’re planning on doing a myriad of activities during your Arctic trip, it would be a good idea to bring water bottles for your little ones so that they stay hydrated whilst having fun.
3. The correct footwear – no matter your itinerary, if you’re spending your holiday in Lapland, ensure that your children are wearing appropriate shoes that are comfortable when walking on snow. Keep in mind that Velcro straps are better than laces in the Arctic – you/they may struggle to tie them up in the cold.
4. Child-friendly activities – some activities in the Arctic may require a minimum age to participate, so always check with the operators beforehand. Picking activities that you know your children will enjoy is key as you don’t want them throwing a tantrum during the trip if they don’t want to participate.
