What our customers say

Review Arctic Direct Customer
Jeff & Charlotte Down Review -

The log cabin and glass igloo were wonderfully constructed warm, comfortable and welcoming. The husky sleds, snowmobiles and reindeer experiences were better than we expected and we have recommended both the holiday and your company to many others. It went well from beginning to end.

Iceland Luxury Guided Tour Holidays

Think of Iceland, and you may instantly picture a wide array of enchanting sights – like mountains, lava fields, glaciers, and glacial rivers, all of which are indeed in abundance on the island.

You might also associate Iceland with fascinating history. Nordic and Celtic people are known to have inhabited Iceland as long ago as the 9th century CE – and, today, the Icelandic language is very much that of the Vikings.

This Nordic country is also distinctive for its obscure location between the UK and Greenland. However, this can work very much in your favour – as, even during the peak tourist season of the summer, the crowds can remain surprisingly small.

Contrary to what its name might suggest, Iceland also has a temperate climate even in the winter – due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. As a result, Iceland remains an attractive holiday destination right throughout the year.

Why Travel To Iceland?

Exploring Iceland can feel akin to admiring intricate details of a watercolour painting, such is the country’s natural beauty. Much of that beauty is also unspoilt by human influence, enabling you to feel as though you have essentially stepped right into a nature documentary.

Iceland also has much to recommend it, whether you are more attracted to the day or night. Though the days and nights there are roughly equal in length during the March and September equinoxes, December is dark for almost 20 hours a day, while the sun can remain up at 11pm in the summer.

Getting used to the way of doing things in Iceland also does not have to be a massive culture shock. English is widely spoken here despite Icelandic being the country’s official language – and most of the shops, restaurants and hotels accept credit/debit card payments.

Where To Go In Iceland?

The most obvious draw for tourists is Reykjavík – Iceland’s capital city, comprising more than a third of the country’s population. The city is renowned as one of the world’s cleanest and safest, and includes the exhibition space Safnahúsið, which belongs to the National Museum of Iceland.

Other notable settlements in Iceland include the picturesque Akureyri, which lies on the Ring Road, and Keflavík, which can easily be explored by foot and provides ready access to the geothermal spa the Blue Lagoon, as well as Keflavík International Airport.

Still, you should be wary of making the all-too-common tourist mistake of sticking to well-populated areas. That’s because many of Iceland’s most memorable sites are actually organic spots much further afield – like the large volcanoes, which you can see without having to pay any entry fees.

On the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, you can even find the ice-covered volcanic crater where the classic Jules Verne science fiction novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth was set.

What To Do In Iceland?

Why look for a manmade light display when the world naturally creates its own? Our Iceland Northern Lights Explorer package offers you a great chance of seeing this delightful aurora in the sky – especially as finding the right conditions for you to do so could otherwise be a hit-and-miss affair.

While on the subject of stunning sights, you can also see plenty of them by riding a horse to Iceland’s Golden Circle. The key attractions you can expect to see here include the Gullfoss waterfall and the hot spring Geysir, the name of which inspired the English word ‘geyser’.

You might have also heard of Iceland’s Midnight Sun, but what is it? It is a natural phenomenon where the sun sits above or close to the horizon on an almost 24-hour basis. With our Midnight Sun summer package, you can enjoy amazingly lengthy days of sunlight.
